Recent good things (3/15/25)

Here are some things that made me happy recently.

Mickey 17

Robert Pattinson as Mickey in Mickey 17

Mickey 17 is a fantastic film by a director whose work I enjoy very much, Bong Joon Ho. It won't be for everyone, but it was very much for me. It's bombastic, over-the-top satire that I loved. It was just so hilarious, and the actors are all great in it. The theater experience was great too; I really enjoyed seeing it with an audience who clearly found it similarly funny. Worth buying a ticket and helping the box office numbers so studios will continue occasionally giving big budgets to weird films, imo! Go see it!

Making bath bombs

A pink star bath bomb

I tried making bath bombs at the beginning of the pandemic and it never really worked out, but I decided to try again this week. This time I was able to get it to work! Making bath bombs is a lot cheaper than buying them, and you get to make them look and smell however you want them to.

I used this recipe (although instead of essential oils and food coloring, I used fragrance oils and soap dye I already had from my soap making).

HandBrake

I'm sure a lot of you have heard of HandBrake already, but this was my first time using it! I needed to batch convert a bunch of silent film clips and stock footage for Divinuet, and HandBrake made it a breeze. It's free and open source too, which rules.
